Our Club

Our Club.
Providing football for the local community for over 30 years

The history of Whetstone Wanderers Youth FC dates back to 1991 when local accountant Mr Chris Panayi was not satisfied with the quality of the football coaching that his young son was receiving and he decided to do something about it.

The Club was duly formed in 1991 with the first matches taking place in 1992.

We have grown from strength to strength to become the largest grassroots community club in the borough of Barnet, serving the community and its surrounding areas with over 600 boys and girls across 40+ teams, from u7s to u18s playing the beautiful game.

There have been many League trophies, Cup Finals, overseas tours and good times along the way. We have also welcomed back many players from our early years who are now proud parents themselves and have returned to the club to coach teams or to help out on match days.

To celebrate our 30 year anniversary we have created a new, modern club badge which we believe reflects our heritage. We hope you like it!

Aboutus

We are delighted to be an FA Charter Standard Club since 2010. This kite-mark is awarded to clubs who provide a high quality football experience. FA Charter Standard Clubs are proven to be well run, sustainable and importantly place child protection, quality coaching and safety paramount.

We believe in the power of sport and football to make a positive impact on young people’s lives, that is why we pride ourselves on providing a fun, safe learning environment for children of all playing abilities.

The FA advises any parents looking for a club that they should find comfort when choosing an FA Charter Standard Club.

Our partnership with Cockfosters began in 2013 enabling our elite teams to play in the Eastern Junior Alliance under the name of Cockfosters.

Outside of Academy Football this is the highest standard of club football available in the South East of England.

The pathway provides players the chance to play in the FA Youth cup, Junior Floodlit League, Herts Senior League, Essex Senior League and FA Cup football through Under 18, Reserve and First team.

Our Whetstone Coaches and managers have also become involved in the Senior club at Board level and have helped the club survive through the recent COVID lockdown.

The vision is to see local boys play Senior Football at Step 5 of the Football Pyramid & maybe one day higher.

Parents and players are welcome at all Cockfosters 1st Team games and will get concessionary entry.

We're also really proud of our recent Partnership with Wingate & Finchley FC.

We have 2 current teams playing as Wingate & Finchley in the Eastern Junior Alliance and are pleased that local boys are being given the opportunity to excel in a professional environment.

Whetstone Wanderers are also honoured to be one of the partner clubs of Arsenal FC. Arsenal Scouts are ever present on match days and work in partnership with our club to identify players with the ability to play at the highest level.
